Hello, everyone, and welcome to another of my articles. In this review, I’ll chronicle my experience with Perfect Tailor in MBK Centre Bangkok and review the fit and finish of the resulting suit.

I’ve reviewed Bangkok tailors for a while now, and over the years, I’ve received numerous enquiries from readers about whether I have recommendations for 24-hour tailors in Bangkok. The premise is simple – most of them are planning a short weekend getaway (Friday night to Sunday afternoon), so they will only have a day to get their suit made. I was initially skeptical about whether a suit could be made in 24 hours, but I decided to put that to the test with Perfect Tailor in MBK Centre. Let’s see how my experience went.

Perfect Tailor – Experience

Perfect Tailor is located on the 3rd floor of Bangkok’s iconic MBK Centre.

Perfect Tailor is located in Zone D of the shopping centre, so search for the sign above. Once found, walk right to the end of the “alley” and you should spot the bright yellow signboard of Perfect Tailor.

There are plenty of tailor stores in MBK Centre, but I decided to try Perfect Tailor for three simple reasons: they advertised 24-hour suits, their suits start from just 6000 THB (~S$230), and their suits looked to be of slightly better workmanship (note the pick stitching on the wide peak lapels in the jacket above) than their peers.

I was attended to by Louis, who confirmed that they can deliver a complete suit within 24 hours. He then proceeded to show me a few fabrics – I deliberated between medium blue and black, but ultimately decided on the latter. Like most Bangkok tailors, Perfect Tailor keeps plenty of fabrics in rolls, which can be draped on your body to help you better visualise which colour suits you better.

The same applies to the linings—Perfect Tailor has plenty in full rolls. I opted for a patterned grey lining, which I felt was in theme with the suit’s monochromatic look.

To finish the look, I kept things classic and chose a textured white shirting fabric.

With the fabric choices complete, the team took my measurements using a traditional measuring tape. To be honest, the measurement process was pretty ordinary (nothing out of the norm), so I won’t go into details here.

What’s noteworthy, however, was the team’s hospitality. Despite the suit’s relatively low price point, the Perfect Tailor team went the extra mile to make us feel at home by offering us beverages, including Thai milk tea from the Inthanin cafe next door. Thai hospitality is renowned globally, and I’m glad that extends even to a small tailor shop in MBK Centre.

After 6 hours, I returned later in the evening for my fitting. Due to the quick turnaround time, the team doesn’t employ the basted fitting process, so the fitting is done on the completed suit. I should point out that Perfect Tailor offers free fitting sessions in your hotel, if that’s more convenient for you.

As always, my back was the most problematic area, necessitating the most alteration.

We also decided to take in the jacket, resulting in a slimmer fit.

After checking out of my hotel, I returned to Perfect Tailor the next day to collect the suit. I could immediately tell that the suit fit better, and was pleasantly surprised by the result. Again, I should point out that Perfect Tailor can also deliver the completed suit to your hotel (at no extra charge) if that’s more convenient for you.

Perfect Tailor – Suit Review

Let’s now take a closer look at the suit back in Singapore.

Firstly, the front fits satisfactorily, with the shoulders lying perfectly flat and without fabric wrinkling or bunching. However, there is some visible wrinkling below the shoulders, which is caused by not properly accommodating for my sloped shoulders (something I’ve talked at length in my previous tailoring reviews). This is likely due to the lack of a basted fitting process – once completed, the shoulders of a suit jacket are virtually impossible to alter. However, there is obvious tapering around the waist for a slimmer fit, though it’s not as aggressive as my suit from Patrick & Co. The jacket is of the right length, too, ending near the base of my thumb bone.

The sleeve pitch is good, with little wrinkling, though not as good as my jacket from Paul’s Fashions. The sleeve length is on point too, exposing about half an inch of shirt cuff. Furthermore, the jacket lies flat on the shirt without an unsightly collar gap.

Lastly, I would say that the fit of the back is decent (especially considering the 24-hour timeframe), but still with room for improvement, especially on the upper back.

Although suits at Perfect Tailor start at 6000 THB, those are polyester fabrics that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. As such, I decided to opt for an 8000 THB (~S$310) fabric, which at least had some wool content. In particular, I was drawn to this black fabric, which had a subtle polka dot pattern. Black suits can often feel too generic or too formal, so the polka dot detailing was a great way to make the suit more striking and unique. The jacket also comes with an in-built pocket square, adding convenience for the wearer.

The in-built pocket square uses the same fabric as the inner lining, so choose wisely. In my case, I felt that the textured grey fabric was a safe enough option that complemented the classic nature of the black suit. I also like the gold inner piping, which adds a touch of luxe to the suit’s interior.

As always, I went with side-adjusters instead of belt loops for a cleaner look. Unfortunately, the design of the side-adjusters is rudimentary—we don’t see the tabs present from higher-end tailors, such as my previous suit from Galaxy Tailors. Here, the adjuster’s loose end droops down slightly unsightly, though I suppose it’s not a dealbreaker by any means at this price point.

Overall, I think that Perfect Tailor has done a very decent job with the suit, especially given that prices start from a mere 6000 THB (~S$230), and the suit was finished within 24 hours. That puts the suit in the same category as G2000, and it definitely fits and looks better than an off-the-rack suit from G2000.

Conclusion – so Perfect Tailor in MBK Centre “shiok” or not?

If you have a limited budget and a tight timeline, then I believe Perfect Tailor is a viable option. Not only are prices affordable, but the resulting garment is also decent, especially considering that it was finished within a day. While it may not be my most impressive suit, I think Perfect Tailor will be a good fit for those looking for something basic, such as a groomsmen suit, or perhaps prom. Furthermore, the Perfect Tailor team also goes the extra mile in terms of service by offering drinks and the option to have the fitting and collection in your hotel room.

Suits from Perfect Tailor start from 6000 THB (~S$230), with this particular suit costing 8000 THB (~$310).
