Hello everyone! In this article, I’ll be featuring my recent watch acquisition, the Oris ProPilot X.
This is essentially a series where I shine a spotlight on my personal purchases. I’ve previously done similar articles on my Kurono Tokyo Toki, IWC Mark XVIII Le Petit Prince, TAG Heuer Monaco CAW211B, Tissot PRX Powermatic 80, Bell & Ross BR 05, Santos de Cartier, Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue, Ming 17.09, Grand Seiko SBGA413 “Shunbun”, Swatch X Omega MoonSwatch “Mission to the Sun”, Hermes Arceau Squelette, Tudor Black Bay 58 Silver, and most recently the Bell and Ross BR-03 Astro.
I was in the market for a go-anywhere, titanium tool watch. I first set my eyes on the Tudor Pelagos, but found the design a tad too bland. I then chanced upon this lovely coral salmon dial Oris ProPilot X, and instantly fell in love. The dial colour is rich, eminently striking, and vastly different from any other titanium professional watches on the market. While technically billed as a Pilot’s watch, the vibrant dial gives the watch a pop of fun, and also makes it a conversation starter on the wrist.
The style is also backed by watchmaking substance – the ProPilot X features Oris’ in-house Calibre 400, which boasts an impressive five-day power reserve. It also boasts enhanced resistance to magnetism and is backed by an unprecedented ten-year warranty. The Calibre 400 is visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback, though the movement is sparsely finished.
The ProPilot X comes on a titanium bracelet, which is a treat to wear. Being titanium, it’s featherlight on the wrist and hypoallergenic, though it is prone to scratches. The faceted bracelet is a treat to look at, and also features the brand’s patented “LIFT” buckle, which is not only comfortable but also cool to operate.
Lastly, ProPilot X comes in at a svelte 39mm – uncommon for a Pilot’s watch, which traditionally are bigger. At 39mm and just 11.8mm thick, it wears fantastically well on my 6.5-inch wrist and slides easily underneath a shirt cuff. And while its sticker price of S$6400 may be eye-watering for an Oris, used pieces often go for a 50-60% discount, making them a steal on the pre-owned market.
An eye-catching dial, outstanding in-house movement, fantastic proportions, and a great value proposition – what’s not to like?
