Hello everyone, and welcome to another of my reviews. In this article, I’ll be reviewing my facial experience with Dr. Hauschka, as well as reviewing some of its skincare products.

After my rather intensive Pico laser treatment – which resulted in substantial downtime – I searched online for products that would hasten the recovery process. While treatments such as Dr Plus’ Collagen Plus facial were helpful in repairing the skin, they are cost-prohibitive and are best relied upon as a monthly maintenance procedure. I was looking for skincare products I could use daily, and chanced upon Dr Hauschka’s line of natural skincare products. After discovering it has a flagship outlet in Royal Square (next to Novena MRT), I decided to pay the brand a visit.

Dr. Hauschka – the Brand

Dr. Hauschka is actually a German brand, and launched its first skincare products in 1967. Its unique selling point is its focus on natural ingredients – the brand doesn’t use any chemicals in its formulation, with its products being paraben, sulfate and cruelty-free. It even has its own farm in Germany, where it grows the ingredients necessary for its products. Long-time readers of this website may know that I suffer from sensitive skin, so the brand’s emphasis on organic ingredients was right up my alley.

The brand is distributed locally by PamperInc, which is run by Lyne (pictured above). Aside from the flagship outlet at Royal Square, Dr. Hauschka’s products can also be found in Takashimaya, Metro Paragon, and selected Unity outlets (Thomson Plaza, Tanglin Mall, and VivoCity).

Dr. Hauschka – the Experience

Due to multiple laser treatments, my face was dryer, redder and more sensitive than usual. I conveyed my concerns to Lyne, who readily recommended the appropriate products.

The first product Lyne recommended was the Clarifying Toner, which won the Cleo Clear Skin Awards in 2019. Lyne conveyed that it would help control inflamed skin, as well as promote healing by “clarifying” the skin.

Lyne was also quick to highlight the natural botanical scent of the Clarifying Toner, though she emphasized that, unlike mainstream skincare products, no perfume or artificial scents are used. Given that the Clarifying Toner is meant to be used in the day – it is a mist after all – the pleasant scent is a welcome boon.

The following product Lyne recommended was the new Balancing Day Lotion. As the name suggests, the Balancing Day Lotion is best used in the day as a moisturiser, especially after the Clarifying Toner. It’s supposed to restore the natural PH level of the skin, reducing oil production by intensely hydrating the skin.

It’s quite a delicate day lotion, and is significantly lighter – and with quicker absorption – than moisturiser creams, which can feel heavy and thick on the skin (sometimes even leading to clogged pores).

Lyne then shared that these products are regularly incorporated into their facial treatments, and suggested that I try one of their facial treatments, which I readily agreed to.

As expected, the facial started with my face being cleansed. Two types of cleansers were used – the Cleansing Cream, as well as the Cleansing Balm. The former is one of the brand’s best-sellers, while the latter is a new product that has a gel-to-milk texture that’s gentler on the skin.

After cleansing, the therapist does a quick extraction to squeeze out the built-up gunk on the face. Afterwards, an appropriate face mask is applied to the client. In my case, the Clarifying Clay Mask was used as it is supposedly optimal for soothing blemished oily skin.

Throughout the facial, facial massages are included too! Not only does the massage help the products to be better absorbed, but it also adds a pampering touch to the facial, making it a treat for both the skin and the soul.

After the facial, my skin was considerably brighter and less red, and the open pores also appeared smaller. I was so impressed with the results that I decided to also get the Cleansing Cream and Cleansing Balm to use as daily cleansers.

Lyne also threw in a cover stick, as well as a small bottle of the Soothing Day Lotion, both of which are ideal for covering/soothing post-laser inflammation.

Dr. Hauschka – Products

Let’s take a closer look at the products I got from Dr. Hauschka.

The lineup includes: The Cleansing Balm, the Cleansing Cream, the Clarifying Toner, the Balancing Day Lotion, the Soothing Day Lotion, and the Coverstick.

In the day, I start off my skincare routine with the Cleansing Balm, which is a new product of Dr. Hauschka. It’s actually a blend of two existing products – the Cleansing Milk, and the Cleansing Cream. It has a milk/lotion type texture and is billed as great for those with sensitive skin. As a cleanser, it absorbs impurities and excess sebum well, leaving the skin refreshed without overdrying.

After cleansing, I use the Clarifying Toner. A CLEO Clear Skin Award winner, the Clarifying Toner regulates and balances the skin, as well as helping refine open pores, reduce sebum production, and calm inflammation. My favourite thing about it is its medicinal scent – it’s almost like a morning mist, and helps refresh the senses. Perfect as an aftershave in the morning too!

Next, I apply the Balancing Day Lotion as a moisturiser. It helps balance and reduce oil production by hydrating the skin, and also soothes blemishes and reduces tautness. I like it a lot – it’s significantly lighter than a regular cream-based moisturiser, and I’ve since substituted my previous moisturiser with it.

Lastly, I cover up the remaining blemishes with the Coverstick. It’s quite an ingenious product, with the same functionality as a concealer, but in a form factor that makes it easy for even men to use. It covers the blemishes well and soothes inflammation through tea tree and manuka oil. As compared to a regular pimple sticker, it’s less conspicuous and looks more natural, especially when blended.

At night, I use the Cleansing Cream to remove all the oil and impurities that build up on my face throughout the day. I prefer it to the Cleansing Balm at night as it has a scrub-like texture that not only cleanses but also exfoliates. If I had to pick one, I would probably choose the Cleansing Cream – it delivers a deeper cleanse that leaves the skin feeling thoroughly refreshed.

Lyne also kindly provided a small tube of Soothing Day Lotion, which I mainly use as a post-laser treatment cream. The Soothing Day Lotion is great for calming redness and inflammation, making it highly proficient as a moisturiser when the skin is dry after laser treatments.

My skin, after a month of using Dr. Hauschka’s products.

I’ve been using Dr. Hauschka’s products religiously for over a month now, and I can definitely say that I’ve noticed a significant improvement. My skin is substantially less oily, softer, and less blemished than previously. I’ve also seen less whiteheads and blackheads in general, especially on my nose. Just compare the previous post-facial photo and the photo above – the difference is stark.

Conclusion – so Dr. Hauschka “shiok’ or not?

Definitely so. I’ve had minimal breakouts since using Dr. Hauschka’s products, and I can genuinely say that using their products on a daily basis has improved my skin. I’m not saying that it’s the sole reason for improvement – I’ve gone for other facial treatments, and still use other facial products – but it’s definitely a game-changer for me. As someone with sensitive skin, I also love its natural composition and ingredients.
