Hello everyone, and welcome to another of my reviews. In this article, I’ll review a bunch of new products from the local fragrance brand Scent by Six.

I’ve covered Scent by Six several times over the years — from its debut collection to a COVID-era Zoom perfume workshop, and later, its range of home scents. All three, however, date back to 2020, when much of the world was still confined to our homes amid the pandemic.

More than five years on, I recently found myself revisiting Scent by Six after hearing that the brand had expanded its range to include new perfumes and home scents. I dropped by its Bugis Junction outlet to see what had changed — and to rediscover what the homegrown fragrance brand has been up to since.

Firstly, I was impressed by Scent by Six’s new Bugis Junction location. The brand previously operated from a showroom inside the mall, but has since moved to an open-air unit just a stone’s throw from McDonald’s. The new space feels considerably brighter and more inviting, thanks to the abundance of natural light, and its open layout makes the fragrances more noticeable to mallgoers passing by.

The first thing that caught my eye was a sizeable standee showcasing Scent by Six’s latest home fragrance range, the Aura Collection. Comprising two scents — Tea Ritual and Cashmere Fleur — the collection is described by Scent by Six as “a bridge between atmosphere and emotion.”

The two Aura Collection scents are currently available in either Reed Diffuser form (as pictured above) or as aroma essence. While Scent by Six also offers scent nebulisers, which I’m told are particularly popular, I personally prefer reed diffusers for their fuss-free nature. There’s no need to worry about charging the device or replacing the aroma essence once it runs out. That said, both Tea Ritual and Cashmere Fleur are also available as aroma essence, making them suitable for those who already own a Scent by Six nebuliser — or any other compatible nebuliser.

Of the two, I was immediately drawn to Tea Ritual. Scent by Six describes it as an attempt to capture “the soul of an ancient tea ritual”, with notes of matcha, jasmine and green tea at its heart. As someone who already loves green tea and matcha, it was right up my alley — the fragrance essentially makes your room smell like a Japanese tea house.

It’s a fairly pronounced scent, but one that I found surprisingly calming. Perhaps it’s the association I naturally make between green tea and Japanese teahouses, but there’s something distinctly zen about having Tea Ritual diffusing in the room.

That said, I appreciate that matcha can be a rather polarising scent — some of my friends, for instance, think it smells more like grass than tea. If you fall into that camp, Cashmere Fleur offers a more conventional alternative for scenting your home.

Scent by Six describes it as “the scent of quiet moments and pure, understated elegance”, built around traditionally luxurious notes such as neroli, lily of the valley, freesia and musk. The result is a more polished, classically perfumed scent, making it the safer choice for those who prefer their home fragrances to lean toward the floral and sophisticated.

Between the two, I personally prefer Tea Ritual. I find it more distinctive, and its pronounced tea scent has an invigorating quality that awakens the senses — making it particularly well-suited to a living room. However, if you’re after something softer and more calming, perhaps for the bedroom, Cashmere Fleur is a compelling alternative. It has a distinctly luxurious quality that reminds me of the scents you might encounter in places like MBS or ION Orchard. It’s also the sort of fragrance I’d reach for when I have a date coming over — polished, sophisticated and unlikely to offend.

After noticing my interest in the Aura home scent collection, Stefanie (one of the brand’s staff at Bugis Junction) took the opportunity to introduce Scent by Six’s newest perfume collection, Reflections.

According to Stefanie, the Reflections Collection is designed to encourage users to “embrace their individuality” and serve as a reminder that “life is beautiful and should be celebrated.” The collection comprises three scents: True Self, Beautiful Bloom and The Journey.

The Journey is described as a fragrance that “embodies the essence of life’s remarkable voyage”, while celebrating “the thrill of adventure and the beauty of discovery”. Its scent profile reflects that adventurous spirit, combining more exotic notes such as grapefruit, cinnamon, rose, cedarwood, orris, patchouli, labdanum and vanilla. Personally, I found The Journey to be a bold and distinctive fragrance — one that is designed to stand out rather than blend into the background. I can easily see myself wearing it for a date night, or perhaps before embarking on an adventure of my own, such as an overseas trip somewhere exotic.

Beautiful Bloom is described as a fragrance that “captures the essence of embracing life’s challenges with grace and determination”. Its scent profile combines violet, lotus, verbena, lily of the valley, tea rose, sandalwood and musk. Compared to The Journey, Beautiful Bloom is distinctly more floral and feminine, with a softer, sweeter profile that is relatively subtle on the nose. The floral notes are balanced by a gentle hint of sandalwood, adding depth without overpowering its delicate character. I suspect it will appeal more strongly to women, although there’s nothing stopping men from wearing it too — particularly as an understated daytime fragrance.

Last but not least, True Self is described as “a celebration of self-acceptance” and “a gentle reminder that it is okay to embrace who you are, quirks and all”. Its scent profile features bergamot, chamomile, mimosa, muguet, violet leaf, sandalwood, musk and benzoin. While it remains a floral fragrance, True Self feels noticeably more unisex and versatile than Beautiful Bloom. It offers a modern, understated take on floral notes without becoming overly heavy or creamy. Of the three, this is the one I could most easily see myself wearing every day. That also feels particularly fitting given the fragrance’s message: to stay true to yourself. As an everyday scent, it serves as a subtle reminder to embrace our individuality rather than smooth out the quirks and edges that make us stand out.

Overall, I’m a big fan of Scent by Six’s Reflections Collection. It takes a more introspective approach to fragrance, marking a departure from the location-inspired scents that defined many of the brand’s earlier collections. Of the three, True Self is the one I reach for most often, while The Journey comes out when I need an extra boost of confidence — whether I’m heading out on a date, attending an event, or simply stepping outside my comfort zone. I’m also a fan of the bottle artwork, which feels more like a piece of art than conventional perfume packaging.

Conclusion – so Scent by Six “shiok” or not?

It has been a while since Scent by Six introduced new ranges, but judging by my experience, the wait has been worthwhile. I’m particularly taken with the Aura home scenting collection. I currently use Tea Ritual in my living room, where I spend most of my time working from home, while Cashmere Fleur has found a place in my bedroom. The Reflections Collection, meanwhile, won me over with its thoughtful messaging and the distinct personalities of its three fragrances. After all, most of us wear perfume for more than simply smelling good — whether it’s to give ourselves an extra boost of confidence, set a particular mood, or provide a comforting scent to carry us through the day. The Reflections Collection leans into this idea, pairing each fragrance with a message that gives it a greater sense of purpose. Some may dismiss this as marketing fluff, but I personally enjoyed the storytelling element. It gives each fragrance a distinct personality and helps the collection stand apart from the many other perfumes competing for attention in an increasingly crowded market. There’s an added incentive for those looking to try the collection: for a limited time, every 50ml bottle from the Reflections Collection comes with a complimentary gift set containing two roll-on Eau de Parfums featuring the other scents in the collection.

If you’re interested in trying Scent by Six’s products, you can use promo code WAHSOSHIOK to enjoy 10% off both online and in-store purchases — yes, the discount applies at its physical outlets too, simply quote “WAHSOSHIOK” or flash this article. The discount is not applicable in conjunction with any other promotions, discounts, or workshops, and applies only to regular-priced items. After the discount, the Aura Collection reed diffusers come to $58.50. Unfortunately, the Reflections 50ml gift sets (with two complimentary roll-ons) are currently on promotion at $86, so the promo code is not applicable on them. Still, I think they represent solid value for money, particularly if you’re looking to explore the collection. Since the discount is also valid in-store, I’d recommend heading down to one of Scent by Six’s three outlets to sample the fragrances in person before deciding which ones to bring home.
